 Week 4: Ideation

For week 4, we were introduced to a new ideation tool called SCAMPER where we get to create as many ideas as we can.

SCAMPER stands for:

S: Substitute

C: Combine

A: Adapt

M: Modify

P: Put to another use

E: Eliminate

R: Reverse

So my group's main idea was to get rid of the bad smell from the toilets in houses. Therefore, my group came out with a Gel that is able to absorb all the bad smell away.

Below are some of a few ideas that my group had came up with:

Substitute: Substituting Gel with Baking soda.

Combine: combining Baking soda, gel and container together to form the product.

Adapt: Adapt the design of an air purifier.

Modify: modify into a seat warmer

Put into another use: put the gel in the car as a car freshener.

Eliminate: Remove the scent of gel, only absorb the bad smell. it does not give out any fragrance.

Reverse: Scent of gel diffuses faster than bad odour.

Feasibility analysis: it is basically considering the timeline, budget, and resources of a project to determine the feasibility and practicality of an idea. One problem that we had was that we are not sure whether the lab has the necessary equipment for us to do the testing.

Moving on, I feel that the biggest difficulty in doing the COWS is when we need to decide on the weightage for the different criteria. Because to me, everything that we listed as the criteria is kinda important. Therefore we took quite some time to actually decide on the weightage for each criterion.

Overall, I feel that the feasibility analysis and COWS method helps us to narrow down our ideas and make us think about other factors that could affect the product.

Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you guys enjoyed reading it  :)
